That Brother Outside The Today Show

His name is Linny Boyette. Every time the camera pans the audience of the 7-10 am "Today" show on NBC, Linny is always there - - cool as ever. He has been there everyday for 12 years except for illness and is retired from the U.S. Army. He is 63, was born in Jamaica and raised in New York and London. He speaks with a deep British accent. We must admit that he has taken a unique path to fame. (Photo: Jennifer S. Altman)

X-Men 3: The Last Stand

Halle Berry (Storm), right, takes her rightful place as the leader of the mutants. Her new hair style fits her beautiful face very well and the leather suit fits her gorgeous 40-year old body like a glove. Storm would be a great energy source because she can control the weather and produce lightning. She would also be a great cure for global warming and climate change. The special powers of the mutants are threatened by a cure for their so-called disease. It has great action, dramatic character interactions and a good plot. Jean Grey (Phoenix) didn't need to be killed by Wolverine; he could have just given her the cure.

If the mutants are a metaphor for black people then what percentage of blacks would take a 'cure' that would turn them white? What percentage of whites would take a 'cure' to turn black? The mutants fight among themselves like blacks do now and like whites did in the first half of the 20th Century. Angel was clearly a native of San Francisco and we will not try to calculate whether Magneto's moving the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island would really work.

Bush Declares June Black Music Month

African-American musicians have added to the rich culture of our country and of countries around the world. During Black Music Month, we recognize the African-American artists who have enhanced our lives and created some of our Nation's most treasured art forms.

Throughout history, African-American artists have produced music with the power to change hearts and shape our national conscience. From gospel to blues, from jazz to rock and roll, the songs of America's black musicians have defined our times, enriched our culture, strengthened our nation's diversity and lifted the human spirit.

Black Music Month recognizes some of the brightest lights of American creativity and honors the African-American men and women whose art entertains and inspires us. The incredible talents of black musicians continue to speak to every heart, reflecting the beauty and pride of our great Nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby
proclaim June 2006 as Black Music Month. I encourage all Americans to learn more about the history of black music and to enjoy the great contributions of African-American musicians.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-fifth day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtieth. George W. Bush

TV Show Dogs Nuclear Power

The NBC movie '10.5 Apocalypse' showed an earthquake fault moving towards Houston, Texas and a fictional nuclear power plant there. A black woman commentator reported that if the plant and spent fuel pool were damaged 75 million people could be killed. And here we didn't even know there were 75 million people in Texas.

It is this type of show that unfortunately keeps the public wary about nuclear power. Hollywood consistently gives nuclear power a bum rap. Nuclear power is an easy whipping boy for writers, producers and directors. They never present the good news that nuclear power provides 20% of our electricity in the U.S. without contributing any greenhouse or smog-forming gases.

Mission Impossible Three

Great summer action movie. Tom Cruise can do anything he wants offscreen because he delivers the goods onscreen. He seems to have a knack for placing himself in excellent films. And he is perfectly cast to drive those big budget movie machines. There are also 3 fine ladies in the film.

A wind farm provides the setting for one of the best action scenes when Cruise is in a helicopter and is being chased by another helicopter through the whirling blades. A missile from the bad guys' helicopter blows up one of the wind turbines. The bad guy helicopter is also chopped in half by one of the blades from another wind turbine. Two God curses (seems to be required in most Hollywood films).
