Sly & a Family Stone To Tour Europe This Summer

Latest: Dec 7 New York B.B. King Club

Update: New York Times Review of Nov 20, 2007 Show at B.B. King Club in New York. Dec 7 brings two more shows at B.B. King. All of the shows are selling out. When are the rest of the Stones going to show up? Come on Larry.

Update: Sylvester was strong and did you see him jump off that stage? He had fun. The haters HOPED you would miss a gig. You stayed strong and challenged our generation to get up off that suburban couch. We are older now too and carrying our own crosses. You are an inspiration. But you know that.

Hey Sly & The Family Stone fans, a rendition of the group is touring this summer and maybe it will draw out the other original band members. Although it is rarely written about, the band imploded from jealouses and dysfunctions between and among members that exist to this day. Sly and Larry approached violent confrontations before Larry left and formed Graham Central Station. Cynthia had Sly's baby. Freddie wants more credit. Gregg quit early because he wanted more money. Sly turned to drugs and attempted numerous comebacks before retreating into seclusion. Regardless, they produced some of the best music and shows ever recorded and even a remnant is better than anything out there today, including Prince and Michael Jackson.

VANITY FAIR article (July 2007)

They are still competing with each other. There is a separate Family Stone touring that does not include Sly. Now Sly is teaming with his younger sisters (but not Rose) to perform. Come on guys and ladies. Get over yourselves and think about the fans. As Quincy said at the recording of "We Are The World," "Leave your ego at the door." Of course, Prince could not fit his ego through that door at the time. We want the original band back together backed up by the cover band. Get it together people and think about the fans.

Sly's bizarre Grammy Awards appearance showed everyone that he is a little slumped like Silvio Dante (Steven Van Zandt) in the Sopranos. That is much better than the monkey he had on his back for decades. He evidently cleaned up his act years ago and is now ready to kick it. Most of the original band showed up for the Grammy Awards, except Larry Graham. Some excuse about being sick. Larry seems to be a hold out although he has stated that he is willing to perform with Sly again. Come on Larry, you can pass out Watch Tower magazines in Europe too.

So the European tour band inclues: Sly Stone, Vet Stone, Lisa Stone, Skyler Jett, Anthoney Yates, Joseph Yates, Stefon Dubose, Mike Rinta, Johnnie Bamont, Cynthia Robinson, Tony Stead, Alfia Fisher, and Funn Roberston.

Here's the full list of dates in Sly and the Family Stone's European tour, their first on the continent since 1973:
