Sly & a Family Stone To Tour Europe This Summer

Latest: Dec 7 New York B.B. King Club

Update: New York Times Review of Nov 20, 2007 Show at B.B. King Club in New York. Dec 7 brings two more shows at B.B. King. All of the shows are selling out. When are the rest of the Stones going to show up? Come on Larry.

Update: Sylvester was strong and did you see him jump off that stage? He had fun. The haters HOPED you would miss a gig. You stayed strong and challenged our generation to get up off that suburban couch. We are older now too and carrying our own crosses. You are an inspiration. But you know that.
----------------------------
Hey Sly & The Family Stone fans, a rendition of the group is touring this summer and maybe it will draw out the other original band members. Although it is rarely written about, the band imploded from jealouses and dysfunctions between and among members that exist to this day. Sly and Larry approached violent confrontations before Larry left and formed Graham Central Station. Cynthia had Sly's baby. Freddie wants more credit. Gregg quit early because he wanted more money. Sly turned to drugs and attempted numerous comebacks before retreating into seclusion. Regardless, they produced some of the best music and shows ever recorded and even a remnant is better than anything out there today, including Prince and Michael Jackson.

VANITY FAIR article (July 2007)

They are still competing with each other. There is a separate Family Stone touring that does not include Sly. Now Sly is teaming with his younger sisters (but not Rose) to perform. Come on guys and ladies. Get over yourselves and think about the fans. As Quincy said at the recording of "We Are The World," "Leave your ego at the door." Of course, Prince could not fit his ego through that door at the time. We want the original band back together backed up by the cover band. Get it together people and think about the fans.

Sly's bizarre Grammy Awards appearance showed everyone that he is a little slumped like Silvio Dante (Steven Van Zandt) in the Sopranos. That is much better than the monkey he had on his back for decades. He evidently cleaned up his act years ago and is now ready to kick it. Most of the original band showed up for the Grammy Awards, except Larry Graham. Some excuse about being sick. Larry seems to be a hold out although he has stated that he is willing to perform with Sly again. Come on Larry, you can pass out Watch Tower magazines in Europe too.

So the European tour band inclues: Sly Stone, Vet Stone, Lisa Stone, Skyler Jett, Anthoney Yates, Joseph Yates, Stefon Dubose, Mike Rinta, Johnnie Bamont, Cynthia Robinson, Tony Stead, Alfia Fisher, and Funn Roberston.

Here's the full list of dates in Sly and the Family Stone's European tour, their first on the continent since 1973:

July 12: Umbria Jazz - Umbria, Perugia, Italy
July 13: Montreux Jazz Festival - Montreux, Switzerland
July 14: Blue Note Festival - Gent, Belgium
July 15: North Sea Jazz Festival - Rotterdam, Holland
July 19: Nice Jazz - Nice, France
July 20: Pori Jazz festival - Pori, Finland
July 23: Olympia Hall - Paris, France
July 27: Jazzaldia - San Sebastian, Spain
July 28: Opera House - Bournemouth Opera House

Unusual Sightings Of Asian Men Black Women Couples

Interracial coupling has been controversial. Laws were even passed to ban whites and blacks from marrying in the United States. Those laws were on the books until about 40 years ago. It is still a little unusual to see interracial black and white couples. That is why people still peek. Come on. You know you do. But you see black men with white women and white men with black women. You see white men with Asian women and black men with Asian women. But what you rarely if ever see are black women with Asian men.

So why do Asian men and black women avoid intimacy? Are their physical characteristics unattractive to each other. We know that love is blind and chemistry can hit anyone regardless of color lines. So why are black women and Asian men not hooking up? If you are a black woman or an Asian man and you see this, please let us know.

The Deidre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology

Don Imus, left, isn't exactly popular in the Black Community right now, even though sympathy in the White Community has shifted to his side, but his wife Deidre, right, sets a fine example in the Green Community. All these colors. It does get interesting. The Deidre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology at Hackensack University Medical Center works to identify, control and prevent exposures to environmental factors that may cause health problems in children and ultimately adults. AAEA would be happy to work with Deidre's Center on asthma issues. She recently went to East Harlem to promote a plan for an environmentally friend medical center at the Coriken Neighborhood Helath Center.

The Center is devoted to the health and well being of children, their parents and the general public through a program of education and action designed to identify and eliminate the carcinogens and environmental factors that assault and ravage our lives. Her mission is vitally important because environmental causes for childhood cancer are not well known, yet children are the most vulnerable to many environmental insults.

Mutter D. Evans : Making History and Talking About It

Mutter D. Evans, left, made history by becoming the youngest black and second African American woman to own a broadcast property in America (WAAA-AM). Mütter Evans grew up in the late 50’s in rural eastern North Carolina. She graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with a journalism degree. At the age of 25, she became the owner of WAAA-AM radio, making her the youngest owner of a broadcast station in the country.

Wake Forest University radio station WFDD (88.5) interviewed Ms. Evans on the program "Voices & Viewpoints." Mutter Evans is also featured in the book "Jewels," along with Nikki Giovanni, Ruby Dee, Hattie Winston and Marian Wright Edelman. Jewels is a collaborative effort by former Winston-Salem resident Michael Cunningham and Connie Briscoe. It’s now available nationally in bookstores.

Garry Shandling Produced Best Bill Maher Show

The May 4, 2007 "Real Time With Bill Maher" was the best show of his HBO run. The panel was perfectly balanced. Former Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. was serious, stoic and lucid. Sean Penn was your typical dissatified Hollywood type and Garry Shandling was totally on his game. We loved the "Larry Saunders Show," but Garry was in the zone on Maher's show. Maher knew it too and you could tell he was loving it. The show was so good we will definitely watch it again.

The seriousness of Ford combined with the Hollywoodness of Penn and the brilliance of Shandling produced awesome entertainment. Maher did not have to carry the show. In fact, all he had to do was enjoy the ride and look over at Shandling. Some people have complained about Robin Williams and Dana Carvey, but they were doing their routines. Shandling was inventing on the spot. Leveraging what was there and running with it. He also provided real insight into the serious issues without losing his comedic edge. Great job Garry.

Malibu LNG Project Press Conference

AAEA held a press conference at the Malibu Pier on November 20, 2006 about a month after Hollywood celebrities held a press conference at the same location to protest a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility proposed for construction 14 miles offshore and 25 miles north of Malibu. No celebrities protested when an LNG facility was proposed near a black community in Long Beach, California.

California is making itself vulnerable to blackouts again by opposing all energy projects everywhere. This project would not be environmentally damaging and would provide the needed natural gas for electricity generation. California also opposes coal and nuclear plants. Deep Cali ecologists will also oppose wind and solar projects based on land use objections. Wake up California. Help your governor to assure your lights will stay on.
