FOX Might Put Wanda Sykes in Saturday Late Night

Rupert Murdoch and Wanda Sykes? Quite a combination. But FOX is looking at fall or January to launch a weekly show on Saturday nights. The show is said to be more in the mold of Bill Maher's HBO show than a typical talk show. It will air Saturdays at 11 and will be an hour long. The network is considering launching the show to capitalize on the promotional power of the American Idol audience.

Fox is limiting its late night presence to Saturday nights, but network execs have said they would like to re-launch a weeknight late night show if the right talent was found. They have also said they like the strategy of cultivating new late night shows on Saturdays. Let us suggest "Late Night With Environment Man." (Broadcasting & Cable, 3/31/09)

UPDATE: Wanda Sykes will be the comedian at the Correspondents Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton Ballroom, in Washington, D.C. on May 9, 2009.

It's Michael Jackson vs Prince All Over Again

It has been 25 years since the rivalry for pop supremacy raged between Prince and Michael Jackson. Back then, Michael crushed with "Thriller" and Prince threatened with "Purple Rain." Now the competition seems to be heating up between these couple of 50 year olds. Not since Elvis Presley vs the Beatles has a rivalry been this hot.

Prince did 21 shows at London's O2 and now Michael has sold out 50 shows and will book more. According to Michael Jackson's official web site:

"750,000 fans have bought tickets to see the undisputed King Of Pop live at the O2 Arena in days of frantic fan frenzy and saturated media coverage around the globe. The amazing news of Michael Jackson's return to the stage caused tickets to sell at an average rate of 40,000 an hour, over 650 tickets per minute - an astonishing 11 per second!"
Prince has a new CD getting ready to drop, the double album "LOtUSFLOW3R," a collection of psychedelic rock songs, "MPLSoUND," featuring an electronic sound. Michael Jackson is offering his Visionary Boxset, which showcases his finest video singles on 20 Dual Discs housed in a beautiful case, and is one incredible collectible item.

We bet Prince will tour soon. Michael is touring for the next three years (maybe). Will their paths ever cross? Will they ever work on a project together (we doubt it - - two huge egos). Do we even want them to perform together? Probably not at this point. Remember when Bowie and Jagger did a video together. And we love Bowie and Jagger. Stay tuned.

Prince: "LOtUSFLOW3R," "MPLSoUND," "Elixir,"

Prince's new LOtUSFLOW3R website.

Prince's three CD bundle will be priced at $11.98 and can only be purchased at Target. He is also doing an unprecedented three consecutive night run on "The Tonight Show." The CD drops on March 29.

"LOtUSFLOW3R," is a collection of psychedelic rock songs, "MPLSoUND," (short for Minneapolis Sound) features an electronic sound, and "Elixir," is album by singer Bria Valente, the latest in a string of Prince protégés.

Prince better be tight on Jay Leno's show because George Clinton and his Gangsters of Love set the bar very high when they performed "Ain't That Peculiar" last year. UPDATE: His sets were tight (see below). GC is surely proud.

PRINCE Performs "Dreamer" on Jay Leno's Tonight Show 3-26-09

Prince - "Ol' Skool Company" on Leno 3/25/09

Prince is still the top live box office draw on the planet [you listening Michael?]. His muscianship is second to none and he and Beyonce burned down the house at the Grammy's a couple years back. Critics seem to feel obligated to find something bad to say about Prince. We will not. For Prince rocks. Case closed.

Uh? By the way Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson, what about that gig with Environment Man & the Ecology Band?

"24" Goes Carbon Neutral

“24” has gone green and is the first “carbon neutral” television series. Fox hired consultants to measure the carbon-dioxide output from the production, started using 20 percent biodiesel fuel in trucks and generators, installed motion monitors in bathrooms and kitchens to make the lights more efficient and paid the higher fees that help California utilities buy wind and solar power.

The producers also bought carbon offsets, which make up for emissions of carbon dioxide, by paying other people to generate enough clean energy to compensate — in this case wind-power plants in India. The producers bought enough credits to offset 1,291 tons of carbon dioxide, just over a half-season’s worth of emissions. Rupert Murdoch, owner of FOX and News Corporation, intends to make his operations carbon neutral by 2010, and the network’s campaign, is part of that effort. (The NYT, 3/1/09)
